Transformers: Age of Extinction is a 2014 American science fiction action film based on the Transformers toy line. It is the fourth installment of the live-action Transformers film series and a sequel to 2011’s Dark of the Moon, taking place five years after its events. Like its predecessors, the film was directed by Michael Bay and written by Ehren Kruger, with Steven Spielberg and Bay as executive producers. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, reprising his role from Dark of the Moon, as Cade Yeager, a mechanic and single father who discovers the corpse of Optimus Prime. Optimus is revived by a mysterious extraterrestrial creature and takes the name “Nova Prime”. The Autobots, led by Optimus, face off against the Decepticons, led by Lockdown, who seek to take Optimus’ head to make a new body for Galvatron. The film was released on June 27, 2014, in IMAX and 3D.
Plot
In the present day, five years after the battle of Chicago, the Autobots have disappeared into hiding following the rise of the Decepticons. Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, is now a hunted fugitive after the U.S. military and a bounty hunter named Lockdown, working for the Decepticons, discover his location. Cade Yeager, a struggling inventor and single father, purchases an old truck that he discovers is a Transformer. He and his teenage daughter Tessa are attacked by Lockdown, who wants to capture Optimus. Optimus fends off the attack, but Lockdown’s ship takes the truck and knocks out Cade. When Cade comes to, he finds that Optimus has taken the form of the truck to protect him. The two are then attacked by the Decepticon Stinger, but Optimus uses the truck’s grill to reflect sunlight into Stinger’s optics, blinding him and allowing them to escape. Cade and Optimus are then joined by the Autobots Bumblebee, Drift, Hound, Crosshairs, and Slipstream. Optimus explains to Cade that the Decepticons are planning to use a Cybertronian ship to create an interdimensional space bridge that will enable them to summon an army of Decepticons from another universe to enslave Earth. The Autobots then travel to the city of Hong Kong to find the creator of the space bridge, Brains. They rescue him from bounty hunters before he can be delivered to the Decepticons, and he leads the Autobots to the ship.

It was the first film to gross over $1 billion in China. The film received generally negative reviews from critics, who criticized the plot, acting, and run-time, although some praised its visual effects and action sequences.
